Plants, Seeds & Scraps workshop with kiddos was a blast!

What a wonderful time interacting with the children and their parents last Saturday at the C. F. Goodwin Public Library summer reading program.  Both the parents and children said they learned new things about plants and gardening. 

This helped to make a connection with last weeks demonstration as we used the vermicompost from last week in this weeks planting.  Participants were able to plant and take home flowers, herbs, and vegetables.

   We began the plant workshop by talking about why people like to garden and the many different places one can get plants for starting a garden.  After sharing a story or two, I did a demonstration on three methods of starting plants in a garden.  We took a couple of minutes here to review the important benefits of vermicomposting to the plants in the garden.

The theme for this year's reading program is Build a Better World.  Our Little Barnyard is proud to be a part of this, as we teach the gardeners of the future!  Last week they learned about worms and composting.  In two weeks they will learn about bees and beekeeping.
