Multi-purpose Egg Basket

This cute egg basket has a purpose you may not be aware of....
Egg baskets are designed for the collection of eggs from the hen house.  Many also use them to store the eggs on the kitchen counter. How many of you know that one of the intended purposes was to make it easy to rinse off the eggs after they have been collected? Just hose them down and the debris drains off through the wires. DON'T FORGET, washed eggs MUST be refrigerated as they no longer have their protective covering which prevents bacteria, and other contaminates, from entering through the shell and spoiling the egg.
This morning I used my basket to collect tomatoes. When we finished picking, I just rinsed them off outside. There was quite a harvest as we had been out of state celebrating the 4th of July with family up north in IL farm country. Great trip, but lots to do here now to catch up with our farm chores.
