Holistic living is a way of life in which nutrition, physical and emotional wellness, and spirituality all work together to impact your total health and state of being. A better understanding of how diet, sleep, exercise, mindfulness, and one's daily habits can strengthen our daily choices to reach a more connected way of living.
So how does one begin the process of adopting a holistic lifestyle? Slowly and small manageable steps at first. Here are five guidelines to help you get started today. I look forward to joining you on your journey. Start where you are. We are all at different places. Pinpoint which areas in your life you would like to see improvements. Look how these areas affect the other aspects of holistic living. Focus on one thing at a time. If you try to do it all at once, you will go crazy. This could be a major lifestyle change for some. As with any change, small steps at first are better as we get our footing and feet wet. Maybe you want to exercise more, or eating more nutrient rich foods might be your first step. Do your research. Everyone's holistic journey is different. Look at the needs of you and your family. Take an inventory of the resources already in place that can ease you into the transition. Set purposeful intentions of how you want to live. How do you envision a lifestyle of healthy living? The goal here is to create a physical, emotional and spiritual lifestyle in which all aspects of your self work together in harmony. The intention is not to set a goal that is attained as if you finished the race and earned the gold medal. Include sustainable actions. Beginning with small steps is one action. Steps too big could lead to becoming overwhelmed, and feeling like a failure if not reached the first try. Other steps could include a garden in which you grow healthy, nutrient-dense foods. Taken a step further would be adding compost piles and worm bins to your growing system for even healthier and organic food. This can be done on any level, a patio or full-size homestead farm. Think of actions you can take to sustain the lifestyle you are trying to create. |
