Long Island Cheese Pumpkin
Sold individually. This 1824 East Coast heirloom is one of the oldest varieties around that almost became extent at one time. The only thing cheesy about this pumpkin is its shape. The name comes from the similarity in its shade and shape to that of a big wheel of cheese. Buff colored skin reveals attractive, firm orange flesh. This sweet-fleshed pumpkin is coveted by many by many chefs for its phenomenal flavor for pie making and savory dishes like soups and stews. Use it as fall decoration before turning it into a holiday pie or a warm comfort soup.
